So...you're resigning, then? Oh. You're being fired. That's rough. Wait...you refuse to do your job and have the audacity throw a fit?
Unless you're a town clerk in the middle of a firefight in Afghanistan and being ordered to kill an unarmed and defenseless civilian during the pursuit of your clerical duties, do you REALLY think you're standing atop the 'moral high ground' on this one?
Been reading this new tactic of the extreme Conservatives for weeks now - I've had it. I've had *enough* of people refusing to do their job siting religious beliefs while simultaneously breaking both the law of the land - and obstructing human rights.
A bit overstated, or harsh?
No. If the clerks in question were on the other side of the desk applying for a marriage license and were refused based on the gender of their spouse, they'd scream bloody murder, call the ACLU, call their congressman, call their pastor, call the Pope, call Mel Gibson...and call a press conference!
Maybe the problem here is lack of compassion. Maybe it's self-centeredness...wait - maybe it's a question of not having READ the Manual on this. Here's a few expressions you may have missed from the Man himself:
Q: 'What would Jesus do?'
A: 'Love your neighbour as you love yourself and your God.'
or
A: 'Give unto Caesar what is Caesar's.'
(like the first one better)
So...what's it going to be, gang? Follow the law and what's right for another human being - especially if the tables were someday turned...or spout dogma - and eventually lose your jobs?
Oh...who's asking for 'special treatment', now? Right...
That's my opinion and...
I'm not sorry.
